Revenue Sharing and Commission

In the last article we discussed the costs of services, and in this article we will discuss scenarios when a location can receive revenue sharing (or commissions) that the vending business generates.

Revenue sharing with locations is not uncommon in vending agreements, but there are a few things to consider. When commission is agreed upon, it is typically in much larger sites with either very high customer traffic, employee counts, or both. In these situations, the location can request commission and probably be in a better position to do so, and these elements are always negotiable.

For other locations, some providers may be very willing to offer a commission to the location, other providers may have more time and experience in the industry and may be less willing to agree to paying commission.

For the business owner or site leader, the main value add for snack and beverage service is the increased employee and customer engagement at no cost, no hassle and no effort to you. For the vending provider, they will rely on their service and quality in lieu of paying a commission…and for the location, this is a win!

In sum, rather than thinking of vending services as a revenue stream, think of it as an investment in your employees and guests. Within this, there are certainly times when commissions can be appropriate, but largely, the main value add is the service offered to your employees at no cost to you.
